Our Electricians Fix Common Electrical Issues

Electrical problems can be frustrating, especially when you experience them almost every day in your home. These same electrical problems can also be hazardous if not dealt with properly, so we recommend giving our local electricians a call right away if you experience one of these common electrical issues.

Flickering Lights

Before you give your local electrician a call, you’ll want to make sure the flickering isn’t just being caused by a problem with your light bulb. Check to make sure you are using an appropriate wattage bulb for your light fixture and that the bulb is connected properly. Never use a higher wattage bulb than recommended for a light fixture because it could overheat and cause a fire in your home. If you determine that the flickering isn’t because of your light bulb, contact Pipes & Plugs so that one of our electricians can look for faulty electrical wiring.

Inoperable Electrical Outlets

If you have an outlet in your home that isn’t working, first check your electrical panel to be sure the circuit hasn’t tripped. Flip the breaker to “on” if necessary and see if that solves the issue. You’ll need a professional electrician to investigate the situation if your outlet does not work when the breaker is switched to the “on” position.

Tripping Circuit Breakers

If your electrical system is older, it may not be equipped to handle powering all of the electronics and appliances that you wish to run at once. When the circuit breaker becomes overwhelmed, it trips, and you lose power to your electronics and appliances. This can happen frequently and can be frustrating for people who simply want to do a couple of tasks at the same time such as brew coffee and heat food in the microwave. Tripping circuit breakers can also be dangerous because the circuits and electrical wires could overheat, causing an electrical fire. An electrical upgrade may be needed to resolve this issue once and for all.
